ET – The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

Starting our list with one of the greatest classics in the history of cinema – and a film that marked many people's childhood – we have ET – The Extra-Terrestrial!

A friendly and curious alien is accidentally abandoned on Earth and is found by a young boy named Elliott. The two form a strong friendship as Elliott tries to help the alien return to his home planet.

Meanwhile, the government begins a search for the alien, which leads to a thrilling showdown between the authorities and the boy and his friends.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

After a close encounter of a lifetime, electrician Roy Neary becomes obsessed with visions of a strange mountain and finds himself inexplicably drawn to a specific location. As the government investigates the UFO sightings, Roy embarks on a journey that leads him to a thrilling encounter with beings from another planet.

Independence Day (1996)

If there's one film on our list that almost everyone has seen, it's Independence Day, one of the greatest classics of the 90s.

On July 2, massive alien spaceships position themselves around the world. The next day, they attack several major cities, sending humanity into a panic. Now, the world's leaders must find a way to unite and combat this devastating extraterrestrial threat before it's too late.

Alien (1979)

Aboard the cargo ship Nostromo, a crew is awakened from their cryogenic sleep when they receive a mysterious signal from a nearby planet. While investigating the source of the signal, they discover a strange artifact and bring a deadly alien creature aboard. Now, they must fight for survival against the relentless creature.

Arrival (2016)

Another film on our list today is Arrival.

When twelve alien spaceships appear in different parts of the world, linguist Louise Banks is called in by the US government to try to communicate with the visitors.

As she unravels the aliens' complex language, she also begins to experience mysterious visions that may have a deeper meaning.

Unlike the other films on this list, Arrival takes a more subjective approach to humanity's contact with aliens. And that's exactly what made the film stand out so much when it was released.

War of the Worlds (2005)

After a series of devastating attacks by giant alien machines, father Ray Ferrier must protect his children as they try to find a safe haven amidst the chaos. As humanity faces a threat it could never have imagined, Ray embarks on a journey of survival and surprising discoveries.

Signs (2002)

In “Signs,” a family lives on a farm when mysterious crop circles appear in their crops, triggering strange events around the world. As the family tries to understand what is happening, they realize that these signs may be related to possible alien contact.

An interesting fact about the film is that, in one of the scenes, it is reported that these aliens have appeared in a Brazilian city. And this was enough to traumatize a legion of children who watched the film in the early 2000s and, because they could not distinguish fiction from reality, ended up believing that extraterrestrials were invading our country.

Predator (1987)

Another classic when it comes to alien movies is Predator!

In it, a group of elite soldiers led by Dutch is sent on a rescue mission in a Central American jungle, but soon realize that they are being hunted by a relentless alien warrior who camouflages himself and uses advanced technology to eliminate his prey one by one.

Star Wars (1976)

Another classic – and one of the biggest movie franchises – is Star Wars.

The main plot revolves around the conflict between the Jedi, defenders of peace and justice, and the Sith, users of the Dark Side of the Force, in search of power and domination. And in the middle of the narrative, we follow the journey of Luke Skywalker, a farmer from the planet Tatooine, and Leia Organa, a princess and rebel leader.

MIB: Men in Black (1997)

This is, without a doubt, one of the main alien films in the history of cinema!

In it, we follow secret agents from the MIB (Men in Black) who are responsible for monitoring the presence of aliens on Earth and maintaining order between humans and extraterrestrials.

When a police officer is recruited into the agency, he receives training to become an MIB and face a potential extraterrestrial threat.
