Popular Pharmacy Program: Learn more about it

Programa Farmácia Popular

At first, the PFPB (Popular Pharmacy Program of Brazil) is a federal government initiative that aims to make primary medicines available and add them to the health of Brazilians.

This is done through drugstores and pharmacies in the private network affiliated with the program.

Therefore, in addition to basic health units or municipal pharmacies, people can pick up these medications at other establishments accredited by the PFPB.

The program offers free medication for the treatment and assistance of the following cases:

  • Diabetes;
  • Asthma;
  • Hypertension;
  • Osteoporosis;
  • Rhinitis;
  • Parkinson's disease;
  • Contraceptives;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Geriatric diapers.

However, it is important to highlight that medications for dyslipidemia, rhinitis, Parkinson's disease, glaucoma and access to geriatric diapers are subsidized.

In other words, the Ministry of Health pays up to 90% of the cost of the medicines and the citizen pays the rest considering the price charged by the pharmacy.

In total, the program covers more than 11 diseases.

It is also worth noting that Bolsa Família beneficiaries have access to the medicines that are available in the program, free of charge.
