What is Fies Social?

Firstly, FIES is a program of the Ministry of Education and implemented through the National Fund for Education Development.

The purpose is to guarantee financing for students at private universities, which would be great, despite the difficulties in achieving this.

In this sense, the program intends to resume its social role, offering up to 100% of financing in contracts.

Unlike the traditional fund, this new version aims to meet the needs of low-income students.

As well as fulfilling a transformative role by providing better conditions for access to and permanence in higher education.

In this way, it was established for the Fies Social that half of the offers made possible by budget availability will be directed to low-income students.

In addition, places are reserved for students who declare themselves to be black, mixed race, indigenous, quilombola, and people with disabilities, according to the proportion of the population of the educational institution's federative unit.

In turn, the remaining vacancies must be applied first to students under affirmative action policies and then opened to broad competition.

What are the remaining vacancies and how does it work?

In short, throughout the collective process, there are vacancies that end up being left over, this is because some students fail to confirm.

In other words, they do not send the documents that are requested or do not meet the profile required by the program.

In this sense, vacancies for remaining employees fit in.

Therefore, candidates who took the Enem from 2010 onwards and obtained an average score of 450 points in the tests and an essay score above zero can apply for these vacancies.

Additionally, you must have a family income that meets the program rules.

When will FIES be available?

According to the MEC, the Fies Social will be available in the second half of 2024.

The solution that develops the modality also provides the possibility of establishing priority courses for full financing, according to what will be established in each notice.

In this sense, FIES is a public policy that provides financing for students enrolled in paid courses at higher education institutions that have opted for the program.

And they are also evaluated positively by Sinaes (National Higher Education Evaluation System).

Finally, anyone interested in financing must participate in the Enem and achieve scores equal to or higher than 450 points, in addition to not scoring zero on the essay, as already mentioned.
