Here, in addition to exploring the series together, we will understand a little more about its format and, of course, we will also recommend other series that have a similar format so that you can follow them too!

What is a mockumentary series, a format similar to Na Mira do Júri?

First of all, let's explore the mockumentary style, the format of the series.

A mockumentary series is a type of television program that adopts the style of a documentary, but instead of depicting real events or people, it creates a fictional and often humorous narrative. The term “mockumentary” is a combination of the words “mock” and “documentary.”

Mockumentary series are typically filmed in a handheld style, with a documentary aesthetic, and the characters play fictional roles. The actors often address the camera directly, as if they were being interviewed in a real documentary, and the plot unfolds through interviews, everyday scenes, and fictional events.

These series are often used to satirize or parody a variety of topics, such as popular culture, historical events, social institutions, or even other styles of television programming. They are known for their comedic and often absurd tone.

Created by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky – the same producers of The Office – in The Jury, we follow the course of a trial in the United States from the point of view of Ronald Gladden. Ronald is a contractor specializing in solar energy panels who was selected to be part of the team of 12 jurors for this particular case after signing up on a platform that was looking for volunteers to participate in the trial and be part of a supposed documentary about the behind-the-scenes of a legal process.

Despite being a new theme, the synopsis doesn't appear to present anything special, right? The difference lies in the development of the trial.

Contrary to what Ronald thinks, the trial is actually fake. With the exception of him, everyone involved in the project is an actor and every detail of the day-to-day trial was carefully thought out by the production team.

And of course this script includes a series of pranks and the most absurd situations possible.
